AI4RE Prompt Guide

Generative AI, and Large Language Models (LLMs) in particular, is transforming many disciplines, including Requirements Engineering (RE). AI offers new ways to analyze, structure, and validate requirements; however, effective use depends on well-designed prompts.

More information on AI4RE can be found on the IREB website!

How to use the Prompt Guide

The guide for each use case includes:

  • General usage recommendations

  • Prompt template and its intended purpose

  • Common pitfalls

  • An illustrative example

Please note:

  • The guide reflects the current state of a rapidly evolving field. It is intended for personal use, inspiration, and discussion, not as a definitive standard.

  • General caution:

    • Avoid sharing sensitive data in prompts.

    • Always validate AI outputs before use.

Published use cases are shown in the figure above. The white boxes are clickable and directly lead to the corresponding prompt template.

Acknowledgments

To support practitioners, Gunnar Harde, Nikola Kostov, Daniela Kreiner, Christian Ploninger, Patrick Steiger, Ellen Volkert, Jonas Walter, Miriam Waßmann and Adil Yilmaz, members of the IREB Special Interest Group (#AIREB) have developed prompt templates for various RE use cases. These templates are compiled in our AI4RE Prompt Guide, which will continuously expand to include additional scenarios. We want to thank them all for their valuable contribution!
